Cisternal Racemose Neurocysticercosis
- Cysticercosis (Taenia solium) is the most important parasitic disease of the central nervous system. Endemic regions include Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe.
- Imaging findings and clinical presentation depend on the localization of encysted larvae.
- Key Diagnostic Features:
- Cisternal neurocysticercosis manifests as space-occupying cysts within subarachnoid basal cisterns or sylvian fissure.
- Racemose form is a multicystic grape-like cluster.
- Scolex is usually not identified.
- DDx: Echinococcal cysts
- Rx: Neuroendoscopy surgery, traditional treatment (cysticidal agents, steroids)
