Neurosyphilis
- Caused by Treponema Pallidum; Southeast region has highest U.S. incidence.
- CNS involvement occurs during the secondary stage (meningitis) or tertiary stage (acute meningitis, meningovascular and parenchymal disease).
- May result in infarctions of medium-to-small size arteries Luetic labyrinthitis:
- enhancement of VII/VIII cranial nerves and labyrinth, spread to cochlea via endo- or perilymph or hematogeneous dissemination
- Osteitis with 'moth-eaten' demineralization of otic capsule
