Spontaneous Epidural Hematoma
- Often of venous origin
- Causes: minor trauma, coagulopathy, vascular anomaly (paraspinal AVM), disk herniations, Paget, Valsalva maneuver, hypertension, pregnancy
- Heterogeneous hyperintensity with peripheral enhancement are typical
- Appearance by MRI does not influence management or predicts outcome but MRI is best method for diagnosis
- Contrast enhancement inside of hematoma may indicate active bleeding
